How it is made
As the studio tells it
Each cat is painted by hand under the glaze, and the seller notes that brush marks show and details differ from cup to cup. The studio states the cups are made in Jingdezhen from Jingdezhen kaolin. It counts pinholes, small glaze runs, black specks and fine crazing as a normal part of the firing, and says the glaze colour is left to the kiln.
The cat on the front is drawn as a loaf, scored across its back like a crust, and a little clay cat sits on top of the handle looking over the rim. The orange at the rim is sponged on, so it fades down into the cream. On the Lazy Cat, the cat lies flat as a tray and its tail curls up to make the cup's handle.
