How it is made

As the studio tells it

The bread names and pastries are painted by hand under the glaze, and the croissants and rolls are raised from the surface. The studio in Jingdezhen says each picture is painted by a craftsperson and then fired above 1,000 °C. It leaves the base unglazed, and lists small specks, pinholes and glaze runs as normal marks of the firing.

The small cup carries one glossy raised croissant above the word "Croissant". The plate is cut to the outline of a slice of toast, with "Toast" written across it and a small modelled bread roll in one corner. The cornbread cup has a bread bun on its handle and "Corn bread" written on cup and saucer. The croissant mug's handle is a doughnut ring with a little croissant on top.
