How it is made
As the studio tells it
The rim is pinched into petals by hand, and the panels are painted by hand under the glaze, the studio states. It works in Jingdezhen with a dark clay whose iron fires into small black specks, and says throwing marks may show. Painting, colour and size differ between cups of the same design, so you get the design you choose, painted its own way.
Muted panels are painted over dark speckled clay, and the rim carries a cream and rust glaze that drips a little over them. Tuxedo Cat sits among red mushrooms; Balloon Bunny holds a bunch of balloons; Happy Day Bunny wears a pink bow beside the words "Happy Day"; Lilac Cat is a black cat on lilac with a checkerboard. Each saucer repeats its cup's colours in a ring of small painted panels. The cup you receive follows the design you choose, but its painting will differ from the photos.
