How it is made
As the studio tells it
Each cat and flower is drawn freehand under the glaze, over a white slip coat that the studio calls kohiki. The studio, which says it began in 2016, makes the cups in Dehua, Fujian, a county it calls the world porcelain capital. Because every cup is painted by hand, the studio says the drawing, brushwork and colour differ a little from one to the next.
Flower Wall has a tabby peeking over a band of pink flowers, and Spring Meadow a white cat among tall red and blue wildflowers. The narrow foot is left as bare buff clay.
